Amarant:Background

The Only Dependable Thing About The Future Is Uncertainty...

Not much is really known about Amarant...
I've heard from my bro that ya can meet him on da plains and fight him, but I dunno about that. Never happened ta me anyway. ^_^o
ANYWAY, ya first see (in my case) Amarant when Queen Brahne assigns him ta go kill Zidane and his friends with his bounty-hunter partner who's name escapes me now.
Anyway, she chases ya around and stuff and is generally annoying, but it isn't until da big Madain Sari showdown that ya actually SEE Amarant.
Da Bounty-Hunter lady whose name escapes me (heretofore known as BHLWNEM) has captured Eiko, which is a good thing in my opinion. I was really hopin she'd kill da little bugger. Amarant comes in and saves her, which is bad cause Eiko lives, darn it, but is good cause hey! It's Amarant! ^_^
Anyway, Amarant chases BHLWNEM off and then challenges Zidane ta a fight, which I won. I don't know what happens if ya lose. ^_^o
Since Zidane won, which is apparently a new thing ta him, Amarant decides he wants ta follow him around and find out why he didn't kill him when he had da chance.
So Amarant is really in yer party in protest. ^_^
Anyway, Amarant continues ta be extremely aloof and doesn't like anyone really until ya get ta that funky upside down castle...dang, what was it called? Ipsen's castle! There we go.
Amarant, whom I love so much, was on my team. Once there, he decided he'd had enough of followin leopard-tail boy around (yes, I think it's a leopard tail. Shut up.). He lays da challenge down fer Zidane. He bets that he can find what they're lookin fer by himself before Zidane can with everyone else.
Lo and behold, he does. ^_^ He's so cool. Anyway, ya meet him there again and, since he proved that he doesn't need peeps fer help, tells Zidane that he's leavin and "the next time we meet, we may be enemies."
So I was terribly depressed after this and went outside da castle only ta find Amarant hadn't come out yet. I was now terrified.
Quickly, I ran back in da castle with just Zidane and searched through da whole place. Figures he'd be da last place I looked. ^_^o
Anyway, Amarant is sprawled across a column and badly hurt. Zidane comes and sits next ta him and begins helpin him.
Amarant is terribly confused. Didn't he say they might be enemies? Didn't he prove he didn't need anyone? Why did he come back if Amarant had told him to go? He didn't owe him anything...
Zidane simply says "I can't just walk away. It goes against my nature."
So he helps Amarant out, who finally begins ta realize that there are peeps who might actually care about him, peeps who don't need ta have a favor done in order ta have one done in return.
I must be da only person who noticed this, but after this point Amarant finally gets a real victory pose. Sure, he just sits down and looks pensive, but dang, I was nearly floored when I saw it. So cool and so unexpected, considerin I thought maybe him just standin there WAS his victory pose. ^_^o
Anyway, Amarant is still confused and asks Zidane why he does what he does. Zidane can reply in various ways, but so far I've always chosen da one fer revenge against Kuja. ^_^o
Amarant watches him go and says ta himself..."Now I know why I lost. I lost against his way of thinking..."
Anyway, this is da actual background info I was able ta get/infer from da game...
Amarant, I think, lived in Treno. He says that he has some memories there but I wasn't able ta see them. Maybe I chose da wrong ATE, I dunno. Anyway, he lived there and then he had ta leave fer some reason. I think he was a theif or somethin...
When at da Fire Shrine with Freya, he gives da snake woman a interestin hypothetical situation fer some strange reason that went somethin like this...
"I knew someone like that once. He only lived for fighting...he was always picking fights simply to prove his skill...he was a loser."
That's da basic jist of it anyway. I assumed he's usin himself fer a example.
Amarant prolly went around pickin fights cause he felt inferior. Prolly cause of his humoungous height he had some kind of self-esteem problem...therefore, he would have ta lord over others ta prove that he was worth somethin. I dunno, I'm kinda makin this up as I go along. ^_^o They never really give any solid info on him, mind ya. I'm just takin what I could get between da lines.
He says that some call him "Da Flamin Amarant" which made no sense ta me. However, in Japanese I think his name was Salamander, which would make more sense. My theory on why he calls himself that is based on da art on da inside of da cover...
I think he started a fire in Treno, prolly by accident. That's why he was ejected from da city and never wants ta talk about his past or what happened. I think he prolly killed someone he cared about. That would explain why they call him "Da Flamin Amarant" anyway. ^_^
Anyway, on da second time around I finally chose da right ATE and found out what happened ta Amarant. ^_^o He was a guard at da Treno city Auction house, which Zidane decided ta rob. Amarant tried ta stop him, but Zidane yelled at da guards that Amarant had stolen da goods. Since Amarant looks more suspicious, they believed Zidane. Of course Amarant just walked away, cause he's just too cool, but it explains why he has that big thing against Zidane. ^_^o
At da end of da game, Zidane talks about not bein able ta leave Kuja behind, which leads Amarant ta call him a fool. I'm not sure what this means. ^_^o I don't think Amarant went back ta his old way of thinkin, I rather think he's tryin ta provoke Zidane inta stayin in his own weird way. ^_^o Amarant is so strange.
Anyway, Amarant uses slashing weapons that he equips on his hands. He's huge and is somewhat gangly inna neat way. ^_^ His abilities are called "monk" fer some reason and he can heal peeps and do all sorts of neat stuff. Unless ya got concentrate on Garnet, he can heal more hits with his Revive then her Life! (at least, with my experience...)
Amarant is really powerful and can do lots of damage with his final weapon, which I think are da Duel Claws. I'm not sure. His abilities are really useful and when he trances they're even better, cause he can do them ta da whole party. Chakra, Aura, and Revive are really great when this happens. ^_^
When he trances he kind looks like a werewolf ta me...I dunno, he gets all silvery and furry (that's how it looks ta me anyway) and he can beat da crud outta peeps. ^_^
Anyway, Amarant doesn't have all that much of a past...it's really too bad. Boy, this was too long. ^_^o
